Lifeline Program

The Lifeline Program was launched in 1985 by the FCC to help low-income people across all U.S. states, territories, and Tribal lands get affordable phone and internet service. It’s managed by the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) and funded by the federal government.

Since its start, Lifeline has helped millions stay connected to work, school, healthcare, family, and emergency services ensuring no one is left behind due to cost barriers.

To qualify for Lifeline, your household income must be at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, or you must be enrolled in programs like Medicaid, SNAP, SSI, or Federal Public Housing Assistance. Only one Lifeline benefit is allowed per household, and it must be used regularly to stay active.
